課程概述

This is a one-year (two-semester) introduction on cosmology and particle astrophysics. Though essentially a theoretical course, conscientious effort will be made to connect with observations wherever possible. It will cover the following topics: The Universe Observed, Essentials of General Relativity, Basics of Quantum Field Theory, Homogeneous Universe and the Standard Model of Cosmology, Standard Model of Particle Physics, Big Bang and Early Universe, Inflation, Big Bang Nucleosynthesis, Thermodynamics in the Expanding Universe, Baryogenesis, Phase Transition and Defects, Relic Particles and Fields, Inhomogeneous Universe, Primordial Density Perturbations, Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) Fluctuations, Large Scale Structure Formation, Cosmic Particles and their Detection, Particle Physics in the Stars, Black Hole Formation and Evaporation, Primers of Supersymmetry/ Superstring/Brane World, Dark Matter, Dark Energy, The Fate of Our Universe, Universe or Multiverse?
THIS IS A ONE-YEAR (TWO-SEMESTER) INTRODUCTION ON COSMOLOGY AND PARTICLE ASTROPHYSICS. THOUGH ESSENTIALLY A THEORETICAL COURSE, CONSCIENTIOUS EFFORT WILL BE MADE TO CONNECT WITH OBSERVATIONS WHEREVER POSSIBLE.
